Carl Llewellyn is without doubt an exciting recruit to the training ranks. One of the top NH jockeys Carl has the knowledge and experience to run with the best. His early years were spent with Captain Forster, Jim Old and a job as second jockey to the late David Nicholson in company with spells with Kevin Prendegast, Sir Mark Prescott and Guy Harwood all adding to his understanding of both flat and National Hunt racing. His nineteen years as stable jockey to Nigel Twiston Davies incorporated a heavy involvement with life behind the scenes and simultaneously living life in the spotlight with big race wins aboard such horses as Grand National winners Earth Summit and Party Politics has given him an excellent grounding for his new vocation.
Last season was spent combining a new role as assistant trainer to Mark Pitman with his ongoing riding career. Taking the licence over from Mark after Cheltenham, he couldn’t have asked for a better start when riding and training the winner of the Scottish National with Run For Paddy. He is fortunate to have some top class horses at his disposal with the likes of Dempsey, Too Forward, Run For Paddy, Roll Along and Snakebite to name a few and continued support from some loyal owners.
Carl’s laid back attitude hides his determination and drive and his fun approach to life ensures a welcome appeal to owners old and new. You always know here you stand and there’s no bullshit. His hands on approach has been vital in the day to day running of the yard and this, together with continued investment from main owner Malcolm Denmark and an ambitious team will guide Carl to the top of his profession.
